IMMENSE HOPE MEETINGS PLANNED

The 1998 Chapter reminded the Oblates that “to evangelize requires a constant reevaluation of our missionary practices” and it asked the whole Congregation to “take the time needed” for such an evaluation and discernment.

In response to the mandate of the General Chapter of 1998 the General Council invited the entire Congregation to join in “a special time for reflection and renewal” (cf C. 35).

What do we hope for in this renewal process? We hope to affirm the past, see clearly the present and daringly enter the future. We hope that our Congregation will be renewed in mission, community and spirituality; that we will be of one heart and that we will all share a deep sense of belonging; that there will be a true appropriation of the dream of De Mazenod. We hope that this journey will help us “to live more consciously and explicitly the internationality of our congregation” (EPM n. 41). “In the face of a virtual explosion of poverty,” we hope to be empowered “to commit ourselves to a more radical way of living and working” (EPM n. 41). We hope we will arrive at a culture of renewal. We expect that this time of renewal will “bring to life in all of us an immense hope” (EPM n. 8).  (From the official introduction of the the Immense Hope Project by Fr. Ryszard Szmydki, OMI, October, 2001.)
