"Come and See" Weekends in Buffalo and Miramar
One of the ways that young men interested in knowing more about the Oblates and the formation programs is "Come and See" Weekends that happen from time to time during the year. Two of the United States Province's pre-novitiate formation communities recently hosted some interested visitors.
On March 26-28, the Bishop Fallon Community in Buffalo, NY, welcome 3 men from New England: George Serrano, John Ivas, and Ray Cook. They were accompanied by vocation directors, Frs. Andy Knop and Jim Erving.
During the Holy Week Triduum, the Blessed Joseph Gerard Community in Miramar, FL, hosted Bart Zavaleta from Brownsville, TX. Vocation Director, Fr. Alex Roque, also came to see.

Oblates to Study in Rome
Two Oblates will be leaving Sexton House of Studies in San Antonio during the summer to study in the Eternal City.
Father Joe LaBelle, OMI, currently the superior of Sexton House Community, will work on a doctoral degree in spirituality while living in the Oblate General House. Fr. Joe, originally from Lowell, MA, is a graduate of Texas A & M and Oblate College in D.C.
Scholastic Brother Tony Ortiz, OMI, has been called to become a member of the International Scholasticate community and to continue his theological studies there during a three-year program. Tony, a native of San Antonio, will leave in late June to spend a couple of months studying Italian to be ready to begin classes at the Pontifical Gregorian University in October.

Cardinal George Confers Ministries in Chicago
His Eminence Francis Cardinal George, OMI, invited the Oblate House of Theology community in Chicago to his home for Mass and supper on April 3. During the Eucharist, he installed Oblate scholastics, Joe Dowling, Fernando Velazquez, and Juan Ayala in the ministries of Lector and Acolyte.

Oblate Seminarians' Summer Ministry Assignments
During their summer break from classes, the Oblate scholastics sharpen their ministerial skills by various practical assignments.
Clinical Pastoral Education is a supervised and structured experience that each Oblate seminarian is required to complete during one summer. This summer's CPE candidates are:
Working with the Oblate community at La Morita, outside of Tijuana, BC, will be:
Finishing his studies and returning to his native Zambia is Deacon Singini Nacidze. He will be ordained a priest in Zambia on September 4, 2004.
Jim Chambers will prepare for and depart for a pastoral internship in Zambia.
George Ngolwe will prepare for final vows.
Karl Davis will return from his pastoral year in Zambia and prepare for his final profession of vows, scheduled for September 4, 2004, in San Antonio, TX.
