IMMENSE HOPE PEER VISITITATION |
|||
|
The guidelines for the Congregation-wide Immense Hope program call for a peer visitation by several Oblates from outside the province, appointed by the General Council, to visit and evaluate how the project was conducted in each province. Fulfilling that role for the U.S. Provnce were Fr. Chris Pulchny, OMI, provincial of Assumption province based in Toronto, and Fr. André Boyer, OMI, provincial of the newly formed Lacombe Province based in Ottawa. They were accompanied and assisted by Liliane Lepine, Executive Secretary of the Oblate Canadian Conference. The visit took place in the context of the recent Provincial Council meeting in San Fernando, CA. The visitors had received beforehand the main documents produced by the province over its two and half years of work on the project. The visitation began on March 30, with council members giving the visitors an overview of the steps taken, the timeline, the learnings along the way. The next day, the visitors made comments and observations. The main focus was on the 8 directional statements and their implementation strategies. The visitors complimented the U.S. Province for its broad-based participation in the Immense Hope project and the serious effort made to bring to awareness the missionary challenges in church and society. They commented as well as on our articulation of the province`s potential and limitations in responding to those challenges. They encouraged the province to consider developing more ongoing formation in order to increase the sense of competency in mission in the rapidly changing U.S. culture. The results of the peer visitation will be a written report on the visit in the coming weeks. |
