CELEBRATING COMMUNITY IN BUFFALO, NY

The Oblates in Buffalo, NY, know that one of the ways to enhance community life is to have fun together from time to time, especially in celebrating special Oblate occasions.  Fr. Gene Tremblay, OMI, a community member and a professor at D'Youville College, sent these photos to let everyone in on the celebrations.

There are Oblates at Holy Angels and Saint Rose of Lima Parishes, as well as pre-novices who live next to Holy Angels in the Bishop Fallon Residence.

On December 8th, the communities gathered for the celebration of the Oblate patronal feast, the Immaculate Conception.  Solemn Vespers, a "gaudeamus" and a steak dinner were on the program at Holy Angels.

On December 12th, the community gathered for the Buffalo District Christmas dinner.  They were joined by Fr.Gerry Flater from Tewksbury, MA,  who was in town preaching. This time the party was at a North Buffalo restaurant – a favorite haunt of OMI’s from St. Rose of Lima parish.

On December 16th,  pre-novice Ben Roberts celebrated his 27th birthday with the other members of the community. And  Fr. Harry Winter, pastor of St. Rose of Lima, celebrated his 66th birthday.

On December 17th, there was a monthly District Community Meeting and Mass for Deceased Oblates.  Fr. Steve Vasek presided at the Mass (the Gospel was the genealogy of Jesus) and helped those present remember noted deceased figures in our own Oblate genealogy.
