NEW HONORARY OBLATE TOM BENSON |
|||
|
Tom Benson is known nationally as the owner of the NFL football team, The New Orleans Saints. In Louisiana, his name is synonymous with "civic, economic, philanthropic leader." Among the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate, he has a special place as a newly named Honorary Oblate of Mary Immaculate. At a recent gathering at the Benson House in San Antonio (formerly the family home of the new Honorary Oblate) about 40 friends gathered as he received from the U.S. Provincial, Fr. David Kalert, OMI, and from Fr. Tom Singer, OMI, General Councilor, an Oblate cross and the official decree of nomination, signed by Fr. Wilhelm Steckling, OMI, Oblate Superior General. The cross given during the Mass had been worn by the late Fr. Pat O'Brien, OMI, who served for many years at St. Louis Cathedral in New Orleans. After Mass Fr. Bill Morell, OMI, President of Oblate School of Theology, presented Tom with an award thanking him for his many acts of kindness and generosity to the Oblates, especially at Sr. Anthony Seminary and Oblate School of Theology.
