The scholasticate community in Chicago at Oblate House of Theology has finished the school year a few weeks earlier than usual. In September of 2004, Catholic Theological Union where the seminarians study switched from a quarter to a semester system for the academic year. The switch was many years in the planning and involved a complete revamping of the CTU curriculum. Brother Joseph Dowling, OMI, graduated from CTU on May 19, having completed his Master of Divinity degree. His next assignment will be a pastoral internship in San Juan, TX, under the mentoring guidance of Fr. John Lasseigne, OMI. Others parting for pastoral internship will be Brothers Juan Ayala (St. Casimir's in St. Paul, MN) and Fernando Velazquez (Brazil). Heading out for summer ministries are Julio Narvaez (Juneau, AK) and George Kombe Ngolwe (CPE in Houston). The community superior, Fr. Jim Brobst, OMI, has completed his term at OHOT and will be followed by Fr. Tom Horan, OMI.
Brother Jim Chambers, OMI, who has spent the past year in a pastoral internship in the Western Province of Zambia, has returned to the States. During his time in Zambia he coordinated the Home Based Care, a ministry of the Mongu diocese, in the extensive outstations of the Oblate’s Sancta Maria parish in Lusaka. Jim also served as chaplain to a group of young liturgical dancers, the “Stellas” of Sancta Maria parish. Actually, his area of expertise is more spiritual than choreographic, much to the delight of all involved.
