Oblates in Rome Celebrate Thanksgiving

How often has someone asked you, in order to trip you up: "Is there a 4th of July in Canada?"

Well, they also ask: "Is there a Thanksgiving Day in Rome?"  Of course there is!

The Oblate General House in Rome has a number of men hailing from the U.S. Province.  How to celebrate what is considered at home as a major "family celebration" when one is thousands of miles from family of origin and Oblate family becomes a challenge.  But with a bit of creativity, it can be done.

Under the guidance of Fr. Don McMahon, OMI, (language professor at the Biblicum) and Fr. Clyde Rausch, OMI, (General House Treasurer), the kitchen prepared turkey and all the trimmings for the hundred or so people who live at via Aurelia, 290, in the General House and International Scholasticate communities.

In the afternoon, some of the Americans went to an apartment owned by the Oblates next to the Mediterranean Sea in Ladispoli, some 25 miles west of Rome.  There, they enjoyed walks on the beach (even though it was a bit chilly), friendly conversation, and PIZZA!  After all, they are in Italy.
