Vocation Day in Lusaka, Zambia

The Oblates’ prenovitiate at De Mazenod House in Lusaka was the site of a Vocation Day held on October 24, 2005, for young men interested in Oblate life.  The event was led by Fr. Ron Walker, OMI, Vocation Director for the Delegation, and hosted by Fr. Evans Chinyemba, OMI, Director of Formation, and the twenty prenovices.  There were a total of 35 participants from various parishes in Lusaka, including four from Mary Immaculate Parish.

After registration and morning prayer, Fr. Ron spoke to the participants about the steps in the formation process, and later, ten guidelines for strengthening one’s vocation.  These included attending Mass and receiving Holy Communion, every day if possible; working on family relationships; getting involved in one’s parish; and starting to be the person they want become, even today.  Many other Oblates were on hand to speak with the young men about their interest.

Events similar to this Vocation Day will be planned for the coming year, including week-long “Come and See” experiences with the pre-novitiate community and area Oblates.  Next month, Fr. Ron and Fr. Evans will present their recommendations to the Delegation Administration for approval of first-year prenovices for the coming year.
