Fr. Clarence Menard: Safe and Sound

Fr. Clarence Menard, OMI, professor of Church History at Notre Dame Seminary in New Orleans, is in the Lafayette diocese and is staying with the secretary of Sacred Heart Church in Baldwin. The pastor was a student of his.

Clarence said that he stayed two days at Notre Dame after the storm. The water was pouring in through the ceiling of his room (yes some of his precious books were damaged). The water outside was 5 feet and there was flooding in the basement and some first floor. After two days, a truck with soldiers arrived and Clarence left with the shirt on his back. He was then deposited on the side the road with nowhere to go. Luckily, he met some policemen from Lafayette who took him to Lafayette where were he finally found a place to stay. He is safe and well cared for. He marvels at the generosity and kindness he has found. It is hoped that the seminary can resume classes at a monastery that was left standing. They are hoping for the beginning of October.
