As many former students have said, it is all but impossible to express my appreciation to the Oblate Fathers for their guidance and direction. The Oblates impacted my early life as a high school student and into college. Following novitiate, I spent 4 years with the US Navy. Eventually, I completed undergraduate work at UT El Paso and later in life completed graduate studies at USA in Mobile, Alabama. Eleven years of my life were spent in Alaska as a social worker in Child Protective Service. I worked as a correctional counselor and an assortment of other jobs in Illinois, Alabama, Alaska, and now in Florida. Thank you, Oblate Fathers! And, thanks for all the memories and friendships formed in the seminaries and in the novitiate.

I discovered that Tony Castelli, Class of ’71 passed away Jan 27th of this year in Ft. Myers, Fl. He was 52 years old. Tony was a year ahead of me at St. Henry’s. I have a vivid recollection following publication of Mario Puzzo’s “The Godfather” and the release of the film of Tony establishing himself as “Don Castelli” at St. Henry’s, with Lou Belobraydic as his “enforcer Luca Braydic” and Tim Gilbreth as his consigliore. What a hoot! According to his obit, Tony is survived by his mother and siblings. He was active until his death in support of the Children’s Miracle Network. Rest in peace Don Castelli.

It's time someone got a new posting going in this guestbook... 4 months is too long a vacancy. Great websites with OMIUSA and Jeff Maxwell's St. Henry's project. I welcome any contacts from classmates, and would also love to hear from any of the underclassmen charges I had from my "prefecting" days. (How I hated that assignment!) It has been great to be able to see Fr. Hurkes, Fr. Jim Allen, Fr. Maes, and Fr.Kalert over the last couple of years. 'Reminds me how young they were when we were so very young, and what a handful we must have been to them. Gotta get back to work, but my aloha to all...

Had lunch with Fr. Jim Deegan, OMI this week (Italian @ Yarosso Brothers, Payne Ave, St. Paul, MN) He reminded me of the Oblates' web site. Upon "leaving" the Oblates, I farmed with my brother, Roger after my father's sudden death in Rosholt, SD. I moved to the Twin Cities in 1974...worked with youth several years @ St. Joseph's Home for Children and Hennepin County Juvenile Detention. Then from 1980-7 I became "chemically dependent", working for Chemlawn,Inc. Left that company after attaining a management position to work with the American Red Cross, where I am currently employed as a Donor Recruitment Rep ("Bloodhound"). In the past 18 years, I have met and established a wonderful volunteer network in over 29 counties in SW MN and SD, with the sole purpose of supplying blood to our nations hospitals. I have a soul mate, Dianne Hanson. Along with the package, comes two step children and five grandchildren. I met Dianne in 1990 and we married in 1998. The education I received from my fellow Oblates and friends, especially the verbal skills, have stood the "test of time" (I am now 58 years old!). Thanks to all my teachers in OLO, Pass Christian and Oblate College. Give me a call, or stop by for lunch someday. North Central Blood Servies of the Red Cross is located near lovely downtown St. Paul. And REMEMBER, GIVE BLOOD OFTEN!

OLO was a great education for a guy from SD. Appreciate more has time goes by. Married 35 + years with 5 kids and 3 grandchildren. The newest one Thursday before the reunion prevented me from coming. After graduating from Lewis I taught in the Joliet Diocease school system for about 5 years. Junior High Social Studies and US HISTORY. I was even recognized as and "Outstanding Elementary School Teacher" my final year. Used some of the things I learned from Fr. Dave Kraus & Fr. Terry Donovan (Thanks guys). With a growing family I could no longer afford the Catholic School System. One summer I got a job working for an owner of a window cleaning company. He also had a Answering Service and a Solar Film Installation company. I was a goofer. Did about everything. Put a slide training program together for them. The next summer, I ran the Solar film division, made some simple changes that increased profits by 60% and sold some major buildings (Hancock in Chicago and others across the country. Got a bonus for three months work equal to half my teachers salary, and offer to run his route division window cleaning company. Left teaching and entered the window cleaning company. Oh, by the way, on my first day there, I ran in a classmate of my from my freshman year at OLO, John Scheffer (since deseased). We look at each other and said, "I know you from somewhere?" Then John's eyes lite up and he said "I remember you're that nasty little sob I played basketball with a OLO. You kept getting thrown out about half time on technicals!" To make a long store short, worked for this fellow for 10 years running every division from Route, To High Rise, to the Hospital Division. In 1986, I left and started my own company. Been at it ever since. Remember when we use to sit out on those little folding frames and washed windows at OLO. Guess the Oblates trained you for everything. I served on the Parish School Board as President, started a Scout troop, ran for office, and married a wonderful woman and have a great family. I been hit by lighting, shot in the head and had the bullet bounce off. I had two of the twelve winners in the Illinois Outdoor Photo Contest this year and two days later went legally blind. Thanks to a good doctor and a lot of prayers to Mary Immaculate (who I credit for gaining my sight back), I got a miracle and might sight back. The doctor still doesn't believe the results. At the last check-up he said: "Do you realize on a scale of 1 (best) to 10 (worst), you were at a 10 and now you are at a 2!" So classmates, life is great as far as I'm concerned, I'm on borrowed time. I will always be greatful to the education I got from the Oblates at OLO and I do have a lot of great pictures from OLO and Lewis. Really sorry to miss the reunion, but I do remember the days a OLO and Lewis. They gave me a jump start on life. God Bless all! Class of 65 drop me a line on my email address.

My brother and I attended the summer OMI camps in 1964 in Carthage at the behest of Fr.Frischmon? Then it was four years at OLO and one year at Lewis for me. All excellent years with wonderful teachers, classmates and learning about the great calling to serve our Lord.
Patty, from McAuley, and I are married 30 years and God has blessed us with a daughter and two sons. My mother and two brothers and sisters are still living as well. My daughter and youngest son have gone to school with the CMC seminarians who have caused OLO to prosper, again.
Every time OLO is mentioned or I visit for Marian Days or the light show from Thanksgiving to New Years Day I remember Oblates are givers and my classmates and I received excellent instruction and mountains of God's grace because of our teachers and staff. You all have left a positive and lasting imprint on us and ours. Thank you. A.M.D.G.

What can I say? I have many memories of Carthage and feel that it set the tone for the rest of my life.

Roxanne, my wife, and I met at Creighton. We have 8 children and 2 grandchildren. Oblate connections remain valuable and a source for joy. Our class reunion in Omaha (July 2001) was delightful. Let's all gather for one big reunion at the Shrine some future summer. And, hopefully, the OMI Congregation can usefully harness our goodwill and energy to support their work.

West Chicago, IL [about 30 miles west of the city]. I reside here with my wife Kathi, two of my three children. Unlike Fr. Jim Allen, I LOVE Chicago! Warm people, lots of things to keep you active. A truely vibrant town!
Though I was parolled a month early from Carthage MO, I continually look back at those years with a great deal of pride, fondness and awe at the great diversity of people that became family under "one" roof. It is a memory that I will treasure for life!

After having served 5 years in Northern MN (I. Falls and Duluth) and 9 years in Sweden, and another 3 years back in MN, I find I am still adjusting to the heat of Texas. I came here in August of 2001. It is a beautiful city and I am enjoying the work I am currently in. Hope you, too, are doing well.
