Oblate Associate Marie Ziolkowski (1941 – 2016)

She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert R. and Clara A., nee Karpowicz, Ziolkowski; a brother, Edmund Ziolkowski; and close friend, Fr. David E. Kraus, O.M.I.

Surviving are an aunt and uncle, Virginia “Ginny” and Raymond Karpowicz; special friends, Fr. Harold Fisher, O.M.I. and Fr. John Madigan, O.M.I.; cousins; and other extended family and friends.

Memorials may be made to the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate or to the University of Evansville, Evansville, Ind. Funeral: A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday, January 29, at The Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows Church with Fr. Harold Fisher, O.M.I. officiating. Entombment will be at St. Joseph Cemetery Mausoleum, Evansville, Ind.

Elizabeth “Barbara” Brady, Oblate Associate, Lowell, MA

Elizabeth “Barbara” (Filling) Brady, 74, of Lowell, MA passed away unexpectedly Sunday, December 13, 2015 at her home.

Barbara was born on March 3, 1941 in Philadelphia, PA and was a daughter of the late Richard, and the late Elizabeth (Beldick) Filling. She grew up in Philadelphia where she attended the area schools, graduating from John W. Hallahan Catholic Girls High School.  In 1968, Barbara relocated to Lowell and attended UMass Lowell, graduating with an Associates Degree in Business.

Barbara joined the Oblate Associates of Lowell in 2005  and made her public commitment in 2007.  She resided in the Belvidere section of Lowell and was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church.  She was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians as well as a volunteer for Elder Services for many years.  Throughout her career, she was employed for many companies including, Capitol Warehouse in Lowell, Lowell Lingerie Company, Wang Laboratories in Lowell, and Orbotech, Inc. in Billerica before her retirement in 1998.

Barbara enjoyed helping others, listening to music, as well as visiting the beach.  Her freedom was driving around.  Although she had many passions in life, spending time with her family is what brought her the most happiness.

She is survived by her four children: David J. Brady, Jr. and his wife, Christine of Lawrence, MA, Michael T. Brady of Nashua, NH, Karen A. Brady of Nashua, NH and her partner MA; and her four grandchildren.  She is also survived by her former husband, David J. Brady of Leominster, MA.

Her Funeral Mass was offered at Immaculate Conception (Lower) Church at 10 a.m. on Friday, December 18, 2015.  Donations in her name may be made to the Immaculate Conception Church-Building Fund, 144 East Merrimack St., Lowell, MA 01852.

Anthony Scott

Oblate Associate Anthony (Tony) Scott, 71, of  Hollywood, Florida passed away July 11, 2015.  He is survived by his loving wife Honey, sons: Charles, John and Jeff Scott; stepsons; Michael and Chris Bourne; brothers: Brian and Philip; sisters: Cathy Dozio and Lisa Jenson; grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, great nephews and nieces.

Born in Watertown, NY on May 7, 1944, Anthony was a Eucharistic Minister at St. Stephens Catholic Church and head usher.  He was Vice President of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, a member of the Knights of Columbus 3rd and 4th degree, crime watch police mobile patrol, Beverly Park Civic Association President, telephone pioneers, an Air Force veteran in Vietnam, Associate of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate, St. Stephens Catholic Church Mardi Gras Committee member and a two time lightning strike and electric shock victim.

In lieu of flowers, donations are gratefully accepted to the St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. Stephens Catholic Church.

Visitation will be Friday, July 17 from 6:00-9:00 p.m.  at Boyd-Panciera Funeral Home, Hollywood, FL., with a Service on Saturday, July 18, 2015

In Loving Memory of Oblate Associate Theresa Gulash September 28, 1930 – October 17, 2014

Theresa, a resident of Granite City, Illinois at the time of her passing, made her public commitment as an Oblate Associate on May 20, 2012 with the Associate community at the Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows.

In celebration of her beautiful life, visitation was held at the Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows Chapel, 442 South De Mazenod Drive in Belleville on Sunday, October 19, 2014 with a Rosary service recited at 7:00 p.m. with a Funeral Mass celebrated on Monday, October 20, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. with Father Gregory Gallagher as celebrant. Fr. Anthony Ouilette will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m., Friday, October 24, at St Joseph – St. Benedict (All Saints) Catholic Church, 801 Vermont, Kansas City, Kansas, where friends may call beginning at 9 a.m. Entombment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Kansas City, Kansas.

Rev. David Kraus, O.M.I., 79, of Belleville, IL, born Feb. 19, 1931, in Fond Du Lac, WI, died Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at Memorial Hospital, Belleville, IL.

Fr. Dave began secondary school in Fond Du Lac, WI, transferring to St. Lawrence Seminary and eventually to a minor seminary conducted by the Missionary Oblates in Carthage, MO, for completion of high school and junior college. He entered the Oblate Novitiate in Godfrey, IL, making his first profession 58 years ago. His philosophy and theology studies were at the Oblate Scholasticate in Battleford, Saskatchewan, and Pass Christian, MS.

Fr. Kraus’ initial ministry was teaching classical languages in the minor seminary in Carthage, MO, and at Lewis University in Lockport, IL. He was on the staff in the counseling department at the Shrine of Our lady of the Snows, Belleville, IL before he went to Copenhagen, Denmark. On his return, he served in various religious formation ministries, including the Novitiate staff in Godfrey, IL, and the Oblate House of Theology in Chicago, IL. He participated in team ministry at Sts Peter and Paul Parish, Alton, IL before coming to serve on the retreat staff at King’s House, Belleville, IL. There he was able to enjoy his favorite ministry of opening people up to love Jesus with gusto and to let themselves be loved by God.

Fr. Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Urania, nee Stratz, Kraus; his aunt, Genevieve; and his sister, Sr. Jane Kraus, CSA.

Visitation and a prayer service were on the evening of Monday, April 12, 2010 at King’s House Retreat and Renewal Center, Belleville, IL. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Tuesday, April 13th at the Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows Church; with burial at St. Henry’s Oblate Cemetery, Belleville, IL.

Oblate Associate James Edward “Jimmy” Fitzgerald from Massachusetts

CHELMSFORD. MA. — James “Jimmy” Edward Fitzgerald, 83, of Chelmsford, died after a long illness on Wednesday, February 3, 2010, at home. He was the husband of Judith (Stearns) (Hayden) Fitzgerald.
Born March 1, 1926, in Lowell, he was a son of the late William, and the late Christina (Delehanty) Fitzgerald, attended the local schools, and graduated from Lowell High School.

After graduating high school, Mr. Fitzgerald joined the United States Navy. He served in the Navy as a 2nd class pharmacy mate aboard the USS Prince William in World War II and was also stationed in the Naval Base in Chelsea during the Korean War.

He resided on Chelmsford for the past 60 years, and was a well known attendee at many of the area churches. Every weekday he would travel by bicycle to attend Mass at St. Mary’s Church, every Saturday he attended Mass at St. Patrick’s Church, and every Sunday he attended Mass at Immaculate Conception Church.

He was employed as a pressman for over 50 years for the Courier Citizen and for the Lowell Sun.

He was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, and was also an Oblate Lay Associate. He enjoyed feeding birds, golfing with his son, and working out every morning at the Radisson Health Club. He also enjoyed working in his garden and had many friends in the Chelmsford Garden Club.

Besides his wife, Judith, he is survived by his children, William Fitzgerald and his wife, Kitty of Pennsylvania, Thomas Fitzgerald of Boston, David Hayden and his wife, Anne of Chelmsford; and his beloved son, Andrew Fitzgerald and his wife, Natalia of Chelmsford; a brother, William Fitzgerald and his wife, Sheila of Florida; six grandchildren, Mark, Stephen, and Christopher Fitzgerald, Katherine, Alexandria, and Deanna Hayden; one great-granddaughter, Annabel Fitzgerald, three cousins, Virginia, Donald and Leonard Fitzgerald, all of Lowell.

He was the husband of the late Jacqueline Ryder Fitzgerald, and he was the brother of the late Christina Wadleigh, and Joseph Fitzgerald.

Oblate Associate Mary Ann Eicholz

Mary Ann Eicholz

Oblate Associate Mary Ann Eichholz, 87, of Belleville, IL, born June 16, 1922, in St. Louis, Missouri, died on Thursday, January 14, 2010 at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, Belleville, IL.

Miss Eichholz retired from Brown Shoe Company in St. Louis after over 30 years of service. She was a resident of the Our Lady of the Snows Apartment Community where she continued to live out her faith each day.
